		<description>Very well thought out observations, and I agree with most of what you have said.  I think though, that I would have to comment that the argument itself is a little self-serving.  It&#039;s a non-issue.  Your premise seems to be based on the idea that anything about the holiday season must make sense or somehow be justified.  And it just doesn&#039;t.  
No matter how or why some of the customs evolved - they have and we crazy Americans will use any excuse to go completely overboard nutzo holiday crazy.  Just look at how all the other &quot;holidays&quot; have evolved in the past decade or so.  They&#039;re all over-observed.  

As for which greeting to use, If I wish someone a Happy Holiday and they &quot;correct&quot; me or tell me I should have said &quot;Merry Christmas&quot; instead, they will get a very cheery &quot;Fuck You&quot; in reply.  Cause that&#039;s how much I don&#039;t give a shit.</description>
