If you’re like me and decided to use the Conectiv box for a sound card for Traktor and you’re using Vista, here’s some info you can use, that no one else seems to have listed anywhere; I had to piece this together from other sources.
First off, you should probably go to the M-Audio site to download the latest Vista 32 Bit driver: Conectiv_V32_5.10.00.5112v2. Note that 64 bit Vista users will need to use a DIFFERENT driver; if you’re using 64 Bit, you’ll know, so don’t worry, you’re probably using 32 Bit.
After you install the M-Audio driver, connect Conectiv. Open up the icon in your taskbar and take a look at the upper-right corner to see if it says ‘Connected’.

If it says ‘Connected’, skip this next part.
If it says ‘Not Connected’, it’s because Windows is trying to install a bunk, outdated driver that it has in the FileRepository, which M-Audio has long since updated and replaced. Why Windows still tries to install a driver when one is installed is beyond me. This seems to be a problem on Dell PCs, but could easily happen on any PC where a company, like HP or Sony, installed Vista, rather than you. You’ll need to do the following:
- Uninstall Conectiv
- RESTART YOUR PC
- Open Computer C: > Windows > System32 > DriverStore > FileRepository (C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository) :
- Delete the following:
C:WindowsSystem32mausbasio.dll
C:WindowsSystem32madfuxp.sys
C:WindowsSystem32madiousb.dll
C:WindowsSystem32Driversmausb*.sys
C:WindowsSystem32DriversMADFUXP.sys
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositorymadfuxp* (entire folder)
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositorymaudio* (entire folder) - Restart
If Windows lets you delete the files, YAY! You’re good to go. Reload the above driver and rave on.
If not, you should download the following program: UNLOCKER 1.8.7. The program will let you delete the files and entire folders. Trust me, it works… that’s what I used.
Repeat the above steps and rave on.
Now, let’s talk Traktor.
I found that a program called ASIO4ALL takes care of all the horrible crackling that seems to happen with the Conectiv box.
When you open Traktor do the following
- Click File
- Click Audio Settings
- Set the Audio Device to “ASIO4ALL v2″
- Click on Settings and the ASIO4ALL window will pop up
- Set the latency/Buffer Size to a high number, like 1920 or higher
- Make sure ‘Always Resample…’ is not checked; that’s not necessary for Traktor use
- Make sure any other audio drivers are not active (lit up) on the ‘WDM Device List’; you won’t hear sound if they are
- Close both windows and you should be able to hear sound.
This is what it should look like (click on the image for a larger version):
This next part may or may not be necessary, depending on your sound quality thusfar:
- Click on the red Conective icon in the tray, to open the M-Audio Control panel
- Set the latency as high as you can without overpowering your processor (2000 or so is where I have mine). This ensures that both ASIO4ALL and the M-Audio driver are buffering samples.
One thing to remember is that I’m working with a Pentium 1.80, dual core; if you don’t have a ‘dual core’ processor, you might have issues with the high buffering rates. Also, if you hook up a MIDI controller to Traktor like I do, you’ll find that the CPU works overtime, so you might want to look into overclocking it. I’m still working out the kinks, but it seems that overclocking isn’t needed for me with the settings I listed above.

While this method worked for me, it may not work for you and you should consult a professional before deleting any files in the ‘Windows’ folders. One Response to “Fixing Vista/Conectiv/Torq Issues”
first thanks a lot for posting this. I have a M-audio conectiv sound card that comes with Torq, and I am trying to use it with Traktor Scratch Pro. I downloaded the ASIO driver and have the newest driver for the conectiv. Everything works perfect and I get sound but I cant figure out how to get the time code cds to work. I have the exact same configuration as you and traktor gets signal for all four input channels but still no response. I am using the time code CDs that came with traktor a couple of years ago. What can I do to fix this? PLEASE HELP
thanks!
